Nutrition for Depression

Dietary Principles:

 

*  Follow the hypoglycemic diet: Eat 6-8 meals per day, totaling no more       than 2,500 calories, divided equally.  Eat 10-12 almonds a day, avoid     refined sugars, and get 40% of your calories from complex         carbohydrates and 40% from protein.

 

*  Elimination/rotation diet, rotation diet, rotation diet expanded 

 

Therapeutic Foods:

 

Eat lots of citrus peels, figs, honey, beets, carrots, artichokes, lemons, parsnips, dandelion greens, watercress, burdock root, nuts, seeds, vegetable oils (safflower, canola, walnut, sunflower, flaxseed), evening primrose oil, black currant oil, and foods rich in Vitamin B6; also spinach and green leafy vegetables, and items high in tryptophan: nuts, eggs, turkey, fish, and dairy products.

 

Recommended Fresh Juices: (Try each one until you find a juice that benefits you.)

 

Carrot and spinach

Carrot, beet, and cucumber

Lemon juice in warm water, 2 x day

 

Also Try This:

 

Tea made from licorice, Chinese black dates, and wheat chaff (the part that floats on the surface of water) 

 

Foods to Avoid:

 

Meat, hot sauces, spicy, fried, fatty, and salty foods, coffee, caffeine-containing colas or teas, aspartame (sugar substitute), and alcohol

 

Specific Supplements:

 

Vitamin B6 - 100 mg. 3 x day

 

Folate -  3-5 mg. a day

 

Vitamin B12 - 1000 mcg. IM (intramuscular) 1 x week, or sublingual tablets (dissolved under the tongue)

 

DL Phenylalanine - Begin with 500 mg. and work up to 3 grams a day.

 

Tyrosine - 2 grams, 3 x day

 

Zinc -  50 mg. a day

 

Vitamin C - 3 grams a day

 

Evening primrose oil - as directed on bottle

 

Also consider: Methionine, threonine, and thyroid protomorphogens (Marz)
