Nutrition for Hypothyroidism

Dietary Principles:

 

*  Maintain a diet low in fat, cholesterol and sugar; avoid   refined sugar in any form.

 

*  Calorie percentages: 30% complex carbohydrates, 40%    protein, 30% fat

 

*  Make fiber the mainstay of your diet.

 

Therapeutic Foods:

 

Seaweed, artichokes, onions, garlic, silicon, phosphorus,  kelp, dulse, Swiss chard, turnip greens, egg yolks, wheat germ, cod roe, lecithin, sesame seed butter, seed and nuts, and raw goat's milk

 

Fresh Juices:  (Try each one until you find a juice that benefits you.)

 

Pineapple juice, egg yolk, wheat germ, and dulse

Black cherry concentrate, egg yolk, and chlorophyll

Carrot

 

Foods to Avoid:

 

Turnips, cabbage, mustard, soy, peanuts, pine nuts, and millet

 

Specific Supplements:

 

Iodine - 4 mg. a day

 

Vitamin B6 - 25 mg. a day

 

Vitamin B-complex - 75 mg. a day

 

Vitamin C - 2 to 3 grams a day

 

Vitamin E - 200 to 400 I.U. a day

 

Glandulars: Thyroid - Take as directed.

 

Chelated Copper - 2 mg. a day

 

Chelated Zinc - 15 mg. a day

 

Tyrosine - 500 mg. a day

 

If you are taking dessicated thyroid, Synthroid, or Cytomel, you will need to supplement with 1,000 mg. of calcium and 500 mg. of magnesium a day.
