Nutrition for Inflamed Stomach and Intestines

Dietary Principles:

 

Short fast, no longer than 2 days at a time

 

Sample Diet

 

* Acute Phase (1-3 weeks)

 

BREAKFAST: Whole brown rice cereal (cook 3-4 Tbsp. rice flour with 2 cups water, stirring constantly over heat), 2 tsp. olive or corn oil

 

MORNING SNACK: Raw grated apple or applesauce, or baked apples (sour or semi-sour only)

 

LUNCH: Vegetable soup with celery, parsley, zucchini, squash, pumpkin, carrots, or potatoes (blended and strained), steamed carrots and squash, rice or millet or barley or potato, 2 tsp. olive or corn oil

 

AFTERNOON SNACK: Same as morning

 

DINNER: Same as lunch

 

* As Improvement Occurs:

 

BREAKFAST: Oatmeal 3 x week; add a soft boiled egg during one meal 3 x week

 

SNACKS: Add almonds (raw and blanched) with apples

 

LUNCH and DINNER: If you can tolerate dairy products, add yogurt (preferably made from goat milk), green beans, waxed beans, lettuce, cucumber, green onions, parsley, celery, garlic, lentils, peaches, apricots, watermelon, grapefruit, grapes, ripe bananas, and goat whey.

 

* After Stabilization:

 

  -  Maintain a vegetarian diet.

 

  -      Cruciferous vegetables must be eaten only with carminatives (fennel,           caraway, cumin, anise, or dill.)

 

  -  Be careful with food combinations; especially avoid starch, sugar, and protein combinations (such as cheesecake). Avoid eating too many          types of foods at one time.  Stick to one type of starch per meal. 

 

  -  Eat more steamed than raw vegetables.

 

  -  A short (2 day) fast is recommended. 

 

  -      All foods must be eaten slowly, and chewed well (at least 28 times.)

 

 

Therapeutic Foods and Beverages:

 

Potato broth, carrots (cooked), okra, parsnips (steamed and mashed), squash, pumpkin, figs and flaxseed tea, steamed zucchini and squash, papayas, grated raw apple, applesauce, ripe peaches without skin, bananas, rice porridge

 

Fresh Juices:  (Try each one until you find a juice that benefits you.)

 

Carrot and spinach

Carrot, celery, parsley, and spinach

Celery

Apple

Carrot and sour apple

Papaya

 

 

Specific Supplements:

 

Crush 1 clove of garlic and discard skins, add an appropriate amount of salt; pour boiling water over mixture and steep; drink 2 x day.

 

For Fever:

 

 Vitamin A - 25,000 I.U. per day

 

 Vitamin C - 3-6 per day

 

 Zinc - 60 mg. per day

 

 Flaxseed oil - 2 Tbsp. per day

 

 Copper 25 mg. a day

 

Foods and Beverages to Avoid:

 

Avoid roughage in general, artichokes, grape skins and seeds, raw foods, cold foods, peanuts, meat, sugar and sweets, hot sauces, spicy, fried, fatty, salty, refined and processed foods, corn, soybeans, oranges, most legumes, coffee, colas and teas that contain caffeine, and alcohol.
