Nutrition for Morning Sickness Dietary Principles:
* Eat small, frequent meals throughout the day.
* Do not drink liquids during meals.
* Dry carbohydrates are usually well tolerated (i.e., dry toast or crackers.)
Therapeutic Foods:
Lentils, grapefruit peels, orange peels, ginger, grapefruit, protein rich snacks: popcorn with nutritional yeast, brown rice with miso, bread with tahini at bedtime; liver-cleansing foods: beets, carrots, artichokes, lemons, parsnips, dandelion greens, watercress, and burdock root
Fresh Juices: (Try each one until you find a juice that benefits you.)
Carrot and spinach Peach leaf tea Red raspberry leaf tea Anise or fennel seed tea
Foods to Avoid:
Spicy, hot, rich, or greasy foods, and yams
Specific Supplements:
Low dose Vitamin C - 25 mg.
Vitamin B6 - 25 mg. with each meal for nausea - 250 mg. a day for vomiting
Zinc - 30 mg. a day
Manganese - 5 to 10 mg. a day
These supplements are specifically for nausea and vomiting in pregnancy; they shouldn't be the mainstay of your supplementation during this time.
