Nutrition for Osteoarthritis

Dietary Principles:

 

*  Maintain a low sugar, low fat diet.

 

*  Calorie percentages: 70% complex carbohydrates, l2% to 15% protein, 15% to 18% (unsaturated) fat

 

*  Short fasts (2 to 3 days) are recommended, at 2 week   intervals.

 

*  Vegetarian cleansing diet

 

*  Elimination/rotation diet

 

Fresh Juices and Teas: (Try each one until you find a juice that     benefits you.)

 

Black mission figs and raw goat's milk

Black cherry

Green kale

Celery and parsley

Veal joint broth

Celery and parsley juice or tea (simmer for 7 to 8 minutes)

Cucumber, endive, and goat's whey

Celery and apple

Cornsilk tea

Grapevine and mulberry vine tea

 

 

Therapeutic Foods:

 

Sesame seeds, kale, artichokes, green beans, millet, celery, barley, okra, almonds, collards, turnip greens, raw goat's milk, goat whey, gelatin (make a gelatin mold with cherry concentrate and no sugar), burdock root, cherries, pineapple, quince, watercress, grapes, blackberries, black currants, mustard greens, limes, lettuce, olive oil, garlic, green onions, peppers, chicken, lamb, ginger, a small amount of rice wine (if you do not have hypertension), parsnips, scallions, black beans, red beans, mung beans, soybeans, most grains, leafy green vegetables, millet,  dandelions, cabbage, and winter melon

 

 

 

Specific Remedies:

 

Rub garlic or ginger on painful areas.

 

Drink scallion tea and rub on painful areas.

 

 

Foods and Beverages to Avoid:

 

Any food that produces an intolerance, animal products, cow's milk and other dairy products (because of promotion of PGE2 pro-inflammatory mediators), spinach, tofu, green onions, asparagus, rhubarb, vegetables from the nightshade family:  tomatoes, green peppers, potatoes, pimentos, eggplant; cold, raw, hot, spicy, fried or refined foods; sugar and sweets, cinnamon, coffee, teas or colas containing caffeine, alcohol and tobacco

 

Specific Supplements:

 

Niacinamide - 100 mg. 3 x day

 

Vitamin B6 - 100 mg. 3 x day

 

Vitamin E - 400 to 1000 I.U. (Start with 200 I.U. and gradually increase to 1000 I.U. over 4 weeks.)

 

Selenium - 200 mcg. a day

 

Cod liver oil - 2 Tbsp. a day

 

Vitamin C - 1 to 2 grams a day

 

Calcium - 1000 mg. a day

 

Magnesium - 500 mg. a day

 

Vitamin B5 - 500 mg. a day

 

Essential fatty acids - 2 Tbsp. a day

 

MAX EPA - Take as directed.
