Nutrition for Premenstrual Syndrome

Dietary Principles:

 

*  Maintain a vegan diet of 75% complex carbohydrates, 15%    protein, 10% fat.

 

*  Maintain a high fiber diet.

 

Therapeutic Foods:

 

Citrus peels, garlic, onions, legumes, kelp, apples, sesame seeds, Brewer's yeast, alfalfa tablets, beets, carrots, artichokes, lemons, parsnips, dandelion greens, watercress, burdock root, radishes, mustard, dandelion, collard greens, kale, spinach, chard, nuts, salmon, herring, mackerel, sardines, walnuts, flaxseed oil, evening primrose oil, black currant oil, ginger, green onions, fennel, spinach, walnuts, hawthorn berries, and cinnamon

 

Fresh Juices: (Try each one until you find a juice that benefits you.)

 

Carrot and spinach

Carrot, beet, and cucumber

Lemon juice in warm water

 

Foods to Avoid:

 

Meat, spicy, fried, fatty, salty, processed, and refined foods; chocolate, cold and raw foods in excess, fruit in excess, shellfish, dairy and animal products, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts, kale, sweet potatoes, turnips, apples, cherries, olives, plums, carrots, yams; foods from the nightshade family: eggplant, peppers, tomatoes, potatoes; sugar and sweets, coffee, teas and colas containing caffeine, tobacco, and alcohol

 

Specific Supplements:

 

Vitamin B6 - 100 mg. 3 x day

 

Vitamin A - 25,000 I.U. a day

 

Vitamin E - 300 I.U. a day

 

Magnesium - 800 mg. a day

 

Essential fatty acids: Evening primrose oil - 500 mg. 3 x day OR flaxseed oil - 1 Tbsp. 2 x day.

 

Lipotrophic factors: Cysteine, methionine, choline, and

inositol (You can buy all of these in one pill.)

 

Tyrosine - 500 mg. 2 x day

 

Zinc - 25 mg. a day

 

Calcium - 1 gram a day

 

Digestive enzymes - Papaya enzymes -  Take as directed.
