Nutrition for Psoriasis

Dietary Principles:

 

*  Always chew food thoroughly.

 

*  Maintain a high fiber diet.

 

*  Go on a vegetable juice fast

 

*  If you're over your ideal weight, take off those extra     pounds.

 

*  Enhance digestion, correct low hydrochloric acid levels.   (Check with your health care provider first.)

 

*  Elimination/rotation diet

 

Therapeutic Foods:

 

Beets, carrots, artichokes, lemons, parsnips, dandelion greens, watercress, burdock root; foods rich in Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids: vegetables, nuts, salmon, herring, mackerel, sardines, walnuts, flaxseed oil, evening primrose oil, black currant oil; unripened dry prunes, guava skins, pearl barley, vinegar, garlic, cucumber, beet tops, dandelions, squash, mung beans, black bass, rye, avocados, sea vegetables, whey, apples, millet, rice polishings, rice bran, and sprouts

 

Fresh Juices: (Try each one until you find a juice that benefits you.)

 

Carrot, celery, and lemon

Cucumber, endive, and pineapple

Carrot and spinach

Carrot, beet, and cucumber

Carrot, beet, cucumber

Spinach

Black currant

Grape

 

Foods, Herbs, and Drugs to Avoid:

 

Any food that produces an intolerance; cyclic oxygenase inhibitors: non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, (aspirin, Motrin, Advil, etc.), tryptophan, cyclic GMP stimulators:  biotin, ginseng, Vitamin C, and cyclic AMP antagonists like beta-blockers, burdock, echinacea, inula which activate the Alternative Complement System; spicy, fried, fatty, heat producing, processed and refined foods; citrus fruits, animal products, pork, milk, butter, eggs, sugar and sweets, coffee, teas and colas that contain caffeine, and alcohol

 

Specific Supplements:

 

Folic acid - 25 mg. 3 x day

 

Vitamin A - 25,000 I.U. a day

 

Vitamin B12 - 1,000 mcg., sublingual, 1 x week

 

Selenium - 200 mcg. a day

 

Zinc - 30 mg. a day

 

Omega-3 fatty acids - Take as directed.

 

EPA - 4 capsules - 3 x day

 

Lecithin - 3 to 6 grams a day

 

Vitamin E - 400 to 800 I.U. a day

 

Bioflavonoids - 2 grams - 3 x day

 

Vitamin B6 - 50 mg. a day

 

Magnesium - 500 mg. a day
