Nutrition for Sinusitis

Acute Phase:

 

*  Eat as little as possible.

 

*  Increase fluids; drink plenty of diluted vegetable juices, broths, herbal teas

 

*  Increase foods rich in Vitamins C and A.

 

*  Go on fruit and vegetable juice fasts.

 

*  Maintain a diet low in sugar.

 

 

Chronic Phase:

 

*  Elimination/rotation diet

 

Therapeutic Foods and Herbs:

 

Garlic, onions, citrus; horseradish, ginger, green onions, magnolia flowers, bananas, black mushrooms, chrysanthemum flowers, and apricot kernels

 

Fresh Juices: (Try each one until you find a juice that benefits you.)

 

Carrot and spinach

Carrot, beet, and cucumber

Celery and grapefruit with a pinch of cream of tartar

Cucumber, radish, and green pepper

Watercress and apple with 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar

Coconut milk and carrot

Lemon juice with a little horseradish

A little cayenne powder in a cup of water

 

Foods to Avoid:

 

Any food that produces an intolerance, all dairy products, all catarrh-forming food: tomatoes, oranges, sugar, sweets; processed and refined foods, heavy protein foods, fats, meats, vinegars, shellfish, coffee, teas and colas containing caffeine.

 

Specific Supplements:

 

Vitamin C - 3 to 5 grams a day

 

Vitamin B5 - 500 to 1,000 mg. a day

 

Vitamin B6 - 200 to 400 mg. a day

 

Vitamin A - 10,000 to 30,000 I.U. a day

 

Zinc - 30 to 60 mg. a day

 

Bioflavonoids - 6 grams a day
